Thursday, November 15th, 2007I love my local Tesco, but isn’t this all a bit downmarket for the Spice Girls?
I do love this other ad with the tennis pros though.
UPDATE: Just came across this insane guy prattling on about the Spice Girls’ Tesco ad. Had to share it.

I think Tesco and the Spices are a perfect match. Back in the day, they were considered naff, but went on to conquer the world. They both walk a tightrope of cheesy/classy, and attract customers from all walks of life - most of whom should know better.

Well said, CB. Though out of all the Spices, there’s no chance of Posh being seen in Tesco’s on a normal day. I could see the rest of them behind a checkout desk anyday…

I think that voice-over is Jane Horrocks (Bubble from Absolutely Fabulous) who did a set of Tesco ads with Prunella Scales a few years ago. That one with Borg and McEnroe is brilliant, but knowing that the Spice Girls shopped there would be enough to put me right off and send me back to the Co-Op.
