Wednesday’s Weird Web: A new feature

Wednesday

I come across a lot of strange things online, and as this blog is becoming an extension of my mind and a receptacle of my thoughts, I thought it appropriate to share them here. You may remember a few interesting linkage posts that I wrote last year, well this is an extension of those. I haven’t decided whether these posts will be weekly or fortnightly yet. (more…)

Bond 22: Quantum of Solace

Thursday, January 24th, 2008 | Posted in Eye Candy, movies

Remember J.D. and the A-bomb? Well that’s nothing compared to my current longing for the next Bond movie.

Now the publicity machine has commenced, and we’ve been blessed with a strange title: Quantum of Solace, which was taken from a short story written by Bond author Ian Fleming, and refers to Bond’s broken heart after the demise of his lover Vesper Lynd.

Bond 22: Quantum of Solace

Here’s a BBC report about the new film, with a few seconds of Craig hurling himself around heroically on a rope.

And my girl Olga Kurylenko is playing a Bond Girl called Camille. Olga was the best thing about the Hitman movie, so I can’t wait to see her in Quantum. Here’s her Sunday Sauce slideshow in case you missed it.

And lastly, if you look towards the bottom of my sidebar you’ll notice a nifty countdown widget that I’ve just knocked up.

The Pleasure Principle

Sunday, January 20th, 2008 | Posted in Eye Candy, music

I grew up listening to Janet Jackson’s music, and dancing along to her videos. I’ve always loved the singles, but have rarely purchased her albums. Looking at the earlier vids, it’s interesting to see how she’s changed her image through the years.

Here are some of my favourite Janet tracks.

The MacBook Slim (aka MacBook Air)

Wednesday, January 16th, 2008 | Posted in Eye Candy, fun

If you’re any kind of geek, you probably already know about the Apple Keynote Speech, and the announcement of the forthcoming MacBook Air, the thinnest laptop ever.

I prefer to call it the MacBook Slim, as that sounds more bad-ass to me. While the J.D. explodes with envy, the rest of us can admire and covet.

I won’t bore you with the tech specs here, but as we all know, being slim and sexy comes with a cost. To eliminate those extra inches you might turn down that extra scoop of ice cream or opt for salad instead of a steak dinner; the MacBook Air doesn’t have a internal disk drive or an ethernet port, there’s only one USB 2.0 drive, the memory can’t be upgraded, and the battery can’t be replaced by the user. But is it worth $1799 / £1199?

Hell yes!

Sunday Sauce #28

I’ve decided to decrease the frequency of Sunday Sauce for now, it might appear on a fortnightly or monthly basis. I’m currently reviewing my blogging routine, and I’m thinking of some new and exciting features for the coming weeks and months. Do not fear, I will definitely post gorgeous pics on here on a regular basis when I feel the urge.

This week I’ve decided to feature the gorgeous King and Queen of Sparta from 300: Lena Headley and Gerald Butler, who both happen to be British.

King and Queen of Sparta

Here’s a hilarious and bawdy video from a late-night show which features both actors.

Lena Headley played Queen Gorgo, who was a kick-ass character in her own right. Quote: “I’ve been lucky, because I’ve always remained under the radar.” Not anymore, luv.

Gerald Butler, who played King Leonidas in the movie. Quote: “I’m very down-to-earth. I think I’m still ’street’.”

#3: Tom Cruise…

Doesn’t he look lovely with Jessica Simpson’s hair? I knocked up this masterpiece with Hairmixer. I suppose you could use the website to try out different hairstyles on yourself before going to the hairdresser/barber, but celeb swapping is so much more fun.

Sorry - No Sauce

Sorry, I was busy earlier and didn’t get around to finishing the Sunday Sauce post. To make up for that terrible lapse, here’s a strangely seductive pic publicising the Sarah Connor Chronicles.

Pump It Up: Dance Mix (A Review)

Sunday, January 6th, 2008 | Posted in Eye Candy, fun, my life

A few weeks ago I wrote about some new workout dvds that were about to be released. Since then I bought one of them, the Ministry of Sound’s Pump It Up Dance Mix.

pump-dance.jpg

I was confident in the quality of this dvd before my purchase having enjoyed previous Ministry of Sound workouts in the past. I was looking forward to working out to recent dance hits like Let Me Think About It and The Creeps.

The workout is presented by choreographer Gareth Walker (who has recently worked with Take That), and three sexy girls. Sure there wasn’t a man with an afro this time around, but I couldn’t help being enthused by Gareth’s effervescent and camp personality. He was also a great instructor, and I found myself following his dance combos fairly easily. I would say that this video isn’t for someone who doesn’t like dancing or is completely new to exercise, as it’s fairly high-impact and fast-moving video. I definitely felt like I was one of the sexy girls dancing in a music video while dancing along with Gareth (or a sexy girl dancing at a gay club, which is just as much fun)!

The vid was arranged into six sections: a warm up, toning section, three dance mixes and an abs/cool down section. The dance mixes become progressively harder, but they’re not impossible. The basic move during the dance mixes was a “strut” - a brisk sexy walk. Gareth would demonstrate a move while the girls behind him strutted, then he’d call everybody to follow him, so we kept our heart rates up between moves. He broke down the dance combos into smaller chunks, then put them together for a full routine.

You could tell that Gareth had put a lot of his personality into the moves that he choreographed for this video. There were some very sexy moves, and some girly ones. He encourages us to flick our hair at every opportunity…

Here’s a clip of one of my favourite routines, danced to Don’t Mess with My Man by Booty Luv. We flick our hair, say no to a boy, then beckon to him. Another move is a sexy pose for the paparazzi… Observant London-lovers can also catch a glimpse of Tower Bridge in a background on the side-angle shots.

My only criticism of this video would that were a couple of instances when the camera focused on the girls’ legs when a full view would have been more appropriate for the move that they were performing. As this workout doesn’t include resistance training (apart from the brief ab section) you should also do some other resistance work with weights, etc. as appropriate to have a complete workout regime.

Judging by the reviews on its Amazon listing, this seems to be the kind of video that you either love or hate…

Addicted to love?

Friday, January 4th, 2008 | Posted in Eye Candy, music

tickHair scraped back?
Vacant stare?
Tight dress?
Braless bosoms?
Musical instrument in hand (and no idea of how to play it)?

Yes to all of the above? Then we have a hot music video homage to this classic 80’s tune. I prefer the original, but the others are great too.

1986: Addicted to Love - Robert Palmer (Just read on wiki that this was supposed to be a duet with Chaka Khan, but her record company wouldn’t release her to work on Palmer’s label. She was still credited with the vocal arrangements. This song is awesome anyway, but imagine it with Chaka’s vocals! )

1999: Man, I feel like a Woman - Shania Twain

2003 Christmas is all Around - Bill Nighy (hilarious - shame I didn’t find this a couple of weeks ago, but Christmas season lasts until 6 January, so it’s still okay.)

2007: Green Light - Beyoncé

There was another video that I wanted to locate (On the Greener Side by Michelle Shocked) but it had been removed from youtube for legal reasons and was unavailable on any other sites. According to an article in the NY Times:

In the black-and-white video, colorized with touches of green, the singer is backed by six Ralph Lauren-type male models, expressionless in their gray suits and dark shades, plucking little green guitars. With perfect pitch and a good deal of bite, she sends the boys back where they belong: to the beach. Ms. Shocked sings a country love song in a skimpy green dress, green socks, Army boots and no makeup. Meanwhile, the men-objects are busy looking cool: dropping their guitars to slick their hair back, straightening their ties, pulling on their cuffs, later to appear in kinky green bikinis and silly goggles, coyly stroking their pecs - the entire repertoire of the narcissistic male. Ms. Shocked’s video is hilarious and dead-on; once you’ve seen it, it’s hard to watch another with a straight face.
